RICHARD B. SANSOM

SANSOM, RICHARD B. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard B. Sansom at Hospice House in Prince George, BC on May 28th, 2009. Born in Fredericton on March 5th, 1947, he is survived by his life's companion and soul mate, Judy Draper, and her daughters Shannon (John) Fedyk and Tawny (Gaetan) Deschamp of Prince George; parents Grant and Stella Sansom, brother David (Brenda) Sansom, cousins Cindy (Tom) Gallagher and Nancy Richard of Fredericton; nieces Megan Sansom and Nicole (Matt) Dawson of Ottawa, uncle Cyril Ellick of Oshawa and devoted friend, charter boat captain Archie Tallio, of Bella Coola, BC. After graduation from UNB in 1971, Rick felt the lure of the wild west and found his way to Canada's Pacific coast. After sampling job opportunities, he settled in the city of Prince George as the comptroller for Schultz Pontiac Buick GMC. Like his grandfather before him (Freeman Sansom), he would go on to enjoy a rich and rewarding career working for a family run General Motors dealership. An avid sportsman, he embraced all that the British Columbia interior had to offer; fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, wide open spaces, peace and solitude. Known for his quick wit and infectious sense of humour, he was simply a nice person to be around. He attracted friends like a magnet while always remaining loyal, faithful and appreciative of those relationships. As an accountant, he was very giving of his time and talents in the preparation of tax returns for friends, volunteer groups and charitable organizations. He will be remembered as a faithful husband, a trusted friend, a loyal servant and one who gave much with no thought of reward. His family and friends in Prince George will conduct a morning service in his memory on Thursday at First Baptist Church with Pastor Wayne Woodcock officiating. A memorial service in celebration of his life will also be held on Thursday, June 4th at 7:00 pm at Brunswick Street Baptist Church (Fredericton) with Rev. Greg Geldart officiating. Childhood friends Joy Peterson, Arthur Grant, Jim Liston, Ellen Beairsto, Norm McKnight, Jim Gorham, Perley Beairsto and Randy Lynch will act as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, and for those who wish, memorial gifts may be made to Hospice Fredericton (PO Box 802, Fredericton, NB, E3B 5B4), The Shriners Hospital for Children (Luxor Temple Shriners, Box 2084, Saint John, NB, E2L 3T5) or a charity of the donor's choice. A reception at the home of David and Brenda Sansom (885 Woodstock Road) will immediately follow the service.
