AUDREY (NEE SPACKMAN) BROOKS
BROOKS, AUDREY (NEE SPACKMAN) Audrey Mabel Blanche Brooks passed away peacefully on June 11th, 2009 in the Kemptville and District Hospital, Kemptville, Ontario. She was predeceased by her husband, Clifton in 2000. She is survived by her children, Barbara (and Patrick Jeffrey) of Red Deer, Alberta, Adrian (and Beth Brooks)of Kemptville, Martin (and Gail Brooks) of South Mountain and Pamela Audrey Brooks of Kemptville. She had eight much loved grandchildren: Stephen (and Kelly) Jeffrey and Laura (and Greg) Heck, Edmonton, Marilyn (and Scott Hoare) Brooks, Ottawa, Rachel (and Rob Darling) Brooks, Morrisburg, Christianna Brooks, Kemptville, Jeffrey Brooks, South Mountain and Ryan Brooks, Ottawa. Allen Brooks of South Mountain predeceased her. Her four wonderful great grandchildren live in Edmonton: Andrew and Nicholas Heck and Ellise and Pria Jeffrey. Audrey has three special siblings, Peggy Barnard of England, Jack and Betty Spackman of Wales, and Sheila and James Brookes of California, and eleven nieces and nephews and their families. Mum kept close contact with them through consistent letter writing. Audrey was born in Pewsey, Wiltshire, England, on April 12th, 1922 to Olive and Stephen Spackman. She grew up in a thatched cottage on the Fyfield estate where her father was a gardener. She met Clifton, a Canadian soldier, in 1941. She, herself, was a member of the British Army, a radar operator identifying enemy aircraft for the 517 Heavy Ack-Ack.. They married in 1942 and she followed him to New Brunswick in 1946 as a war bride. She sailed on the Queen Mary with two small children and landed at Pier 21 on July 4, 1946. They raised their family in NB and still have a cabin at Scotch Lake. Mum has special friends in NB. They moved to Kemptville in 1985 to be nearer family. Mum inherited her father's love of gardening, especially flowers. She loved watching birds, reading, quilting, knitting, relaxing at the Lake, playing crib with Dad or Scrabble with Pam and being with her family. Mum will be missed with profound sadness and remembered with unending love. The family wishes to thank the health care team that helped keep Mum at home after a stroke in 2005: Dr. Tara McCallan, Dr. David Jones, Bayshore Home Health (especially Jessie, Valerie and Patsy, Jean, Carol and Sally), Kemptville Hospital staff and the Access Centre staff, and Tina, her physiotherapist. Friends will be welcome at Grant Brown Funeral Home Rolston Chapel, Kemptville, on Monday evening, June 15th, 2009 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral services will take place at St. James Anglican Church, Kemptville on Tuesday, June 16th, 2009 at 11:00 am.
