MACPHERSON, DARRELL LEROY The death of Darrell Leroy Macpherson occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on July 2nd, 2009 with his wife, Evelyn by his side. He was born January 28th, 1920 the son of the late Andrew Justin (Ted) MacPherson and the late Alberta (McInnis) MacPherson. He is survived by his wife Evelyn and stepdaughter Phillipa Corning of Fredericton; sons from a previous marriage, Arnold (Joanne) of Yoho Lake, Roy (Cynthia) of St. Stephen, Rob (Donna) of Grand Manan and Andrew (Jean) of Moncton; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and three nephews. Music played an important role in Darrell's life. His first live performance was on the Lyric Stage in Marysville when he was five years old. The citizens of Charlotte County enjoyed the big band sound of Darrell Macpherson and his Orchestra at dances throughout the county during the forties and fifties. He performed on radio and television and his rich baritone voice was featured in local variety shows and musicals. During the eighty years of music Darrell released several records, CD's, music videos and won several singing competitions. He taught music for a number of years after he retired. He once said, "A world without music would be a pretty dull place". He was proud of his Marysville roots and his Scottish heritage. He was an avid supporter of anything Marysville and told many tales of growing up there. He followed anything Scottish with a great deal of interest and was a life member of the Fredericton Society of St. Andrew. Darrell was a veteran of World War II serving in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe with the Canadian Army. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Sunday, July 5th, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Memorial Service will take place at York Funeral Home's T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Monday at 2 pm with Rev. Reg Miller officiating. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion are asked to assemble at the funeral home for a Legion Tribute Service that will take place immediately following the service.
