ALLEN, HERBERT A. (HERB) (UNGGAWAH) Born on February 27th, 1934 in Fredericton, NB. He was the son of the late Roy I. Allen and Mildred (McKiel) Allen and the husband of Sue (Hughes) for over 51 years. Herb worked for 38 years with the Provincial Government in various aspects of electrical design for the Department of Education and the Department of Supply and Services. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, St Anthony's Choir and was one of the founding members of St. Anthony's Parish Council. Herb was a Eucharistic Minister as well as a member of the Bereavement Committee. He was also in Scouting for over 50 years. He went from being a Scout at St Dunstan's to Scoutmaster at St. Anthony's, District Commissioner, Provincial Commissioner and member of the National Council. Herb was very involved in Jamborees locally and nationally. He was recognized with many awards for his service to Scout's Canada. He was awarded the highest achievement in Scouting- the Silver Wolf, and received recognition as Distinguished Citizen of the year as well as the Paul Harris Award. One of his proudest achievements, outside of his family, was the rebuilding of the Yoho Scout Lodge. Herb loved hockey and was a goal tender with RCAFA Old Timers for many years. He was a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America for over 30 years. He was also member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4 and served as 2nd Vice President and was later awarded Life Time Member. Survived by his loving wife, Sue; their children, Angela (John) Sochatzy and grandchildren, Shawn, Melanie and Ryan; Danny (Lynne); Andrew (Jackie) and grandson, Nicholas; Patrick (Kathy) and granddaughter, Sarah; Tim (Rachelle); David and grandchildren, Christopher and Alex; Stephanie (Mike) Taylor and grandchildren, Dylan, Liam and Cassie; and Margo (Ivan) Sears and grandchildren, Myra, Ella and Isaac; two great grandchildren, Quinlan and Logan; two sisters, Marion Nason of Almer, QC, Winnie Smith of Oakville, ON; one brother, Royden Allen (Ruth) of Fredericton, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home on Sunday and Monday, August 2nd and 3rd, 2009 from 3 to 9 pm. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4 will hold a Legion Tribute on Monday evening at 7:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony's Catholic Church on Tuesday, August 4th at 10:00 am with Fr. Monte Peters as Celebrant. Interment will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
