HELEN MARGUERITE COLWELL

COLWELL, HELEN MARGUERITE Daughter of the late Charles and Marguerita (Hanson) Colwell, passed away on August 13, 2009. Born on December 23, 1934 in Fredericton, Helen had a varied career life, beginning as a secretary at N.B. RCMP headquarters. After attending Moncton Bible School and N.B. Teacher's College, she taught at elementary schools in Dorchester and Camp Gagetown before moving to Quebec to teach French. After earning a Business teaching degree in 1969, she taught business for four years before returning to N.B. Taking up residence on Deer Island, Helen and her best friend and companion, Maudie Doughty, took on the challenge of creating and selling crafts, later converting their business into a successful roadside restaurant. Gifted with a teacher's heart, Helen returned to teaching business at the local high school until retiring in 1979. Predeceased by her parents and brothers-in-law George Spicer and Walter Smith, Helen will be lovingly remembered by Maudie; chosen children Jay and Becky; grandchildren David and Prescott; sisters Isobel Spicer of Peterborough, Charline Smith-Rouse (Doug) Toronto; brothers Rupert Colwell (Mary) Ottawa, Laurin (Carley) Colwell of Fredericton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements in care of St. George Funeral Home, St. George, NB. Memorial service to follow at a later date.
