BURSILL, CLAUDE, PHD (LON.) On 21 September 2009, White Rock, B.C. aged 89. Born East Sheen, London, England, latterly Executive Director founding member, R.P.C Fredericton, 1963-1983. Claude had a full, dynamic life and career. Served in the RAF during WW2, studied geology thereafter St. John's College, Cambridge and Imperial College. Married in 1943. Geology took him and family world wide including to the Middle East, Ecuador, Australia, South Africa with Anglo American as senior consulting geologist, and back to England. He had a fine mind, a ready wit and great sense of humour. He was truly courageous in personal tragedy; the deaths of his beloved son Mark Elliot in 1971, wife Vera (Morgan) 1981, and declining health. His honesty, erudition, integrity and generosity were enjoyed by all; wise mentor, kind parent, partner and friend. He loved his family deeply, books, adventure, fine music and wines, conviviality and conversation, geology and paleontology. Survived by partner of 25 years, Viola Temple , sister Hilary Bursill-Hall, daughter Charmian Bursill, cousin Drusilla Dietrich, niece Clare Soloway, nephews Damian and Piers Bursill-Hall.
