GIBBS, DONALD ROBSON On October 1, at his home in Fredericton, Donald Gibbs died unexpectedly after a year long battle with cancer. He leaves to mourn his brother, Robert; sister, Jean Gibbs-Sathaanandan of West Harrow England; sister-in-law, Grace Gibbs of Shediac; nieces, Wandah Gibbs-Smith of Rochester, NY; Sylvia Gibbs- Russ of Ottawa and Donna Rae-Gibbs of Moncton; nephew, Graeme Duke-Gibbs of Gananoque, ON; four grand nephews and two grand nieces. Besides his parents, Robson and Bessie Gibbs of Saint John, he was predeceased by his brother, Raymond Gibbs of Shediac. Donald was born in 1926 and grew up in Saint John. He graduated from SJHS in 1944 and joined the Canadian Army in 1945. In 1946-47 he attended Zion Bible Institute in East Providence, RI. On his father's death in 1947, he became the provider for his family and he remained at home as his mother's chief caregiver until her death in 1987. He worked for many years as an accountant at Lawson Motors, retiring in 1982. In 1987 he moved to Fredericton where he lived with his brother, Robert. Donald was known for his generosity, his love for simple pleasures, reading, feeding the birds, following political events, especially elections, watching golf, curling and baseball, his profound faith. He loved to travel and made frequent trips to London, which he loved. For several years, he and his brother joined his sister there for Christmas. He last visited in October 2008. A member of Evangel Assembly, he enjoyed the seniors' and Men's fellowships. He received great love and support during his illness from his family, his church, his friends, his doctors and nurses and other personnel. Following cremation, according to his wishes, a Memorial Service will be held at Evangel Assembly with interment to follow at a date to be announced.
