Kevin Ronald Broderick
Passed away peacefully after a brief illness in the presence of his family on Thursday, June 26, 2008, Kevin Broderick of Bay de Verde, age 85 years. He is predeceased by his wife Mary, and his son Jim and infant son Kevin. Left with a lifetime of loving memories are his children: Anne (Edwin) Noonan, Bay de Verde, Bill (Mary), Baie Verte, Pauline (Guy) Badcock, Paradise, Eileen (Fred) Blundon, Bay de Verde, Julie (Alby) Doyle, Bay de Verde, Paddy (Judy), Lloydminster, Sask., Gerard (Jackie), Bay de Verde, and D'Arcy (Annie), Torbay. Also left with great memories are his twenty-one grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and cousins in Bay de Verde and Saint John, New Brunswick. Kevin was born in Lower Island Cove in 1923 and he moved to Bay de Verde in 1931, where he fished with his father for many years. Kevin was a renowned fiddler having shared his love of music with his family and friends even up to his 85th birthday. Over the years Kevin learned thousands of tunes from the radio and passed them along to many of today's musicians including his children. Anybody who is anybody in the Irish music field has played many's a tune alongside Kevin and enjoyed the hospitality of both Kevin and Mary at their home in Bay de Verde. Not only was Kevin a great fisherman, he was an accomplished carpenter, cooper and blacksmith and as one gentleman put it so aptly "Kevin Broderick is not only a walking Encyclopedia, a great carpenter, cooper and musician but he is a Gentleman's Gentleman." Resting at Hopkins Funeral Home, Old Perlican, Saturday, June 28 and Sunday, June 29, 1 p.m. - 10 p.m., and Monday, June 30, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial from Parish of the Assumption, Bay de Verde, at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 30.
