CHAPMAN, HAZEL LETITIA Hazel Letitia Chapman (neé MacNeill), of Fredericton, passed away peacefully with her family at her side at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton on November 8, 2009. Born in Fredericton, NB (1934) she was the daughter of the late Lloyd Darrington McNeill and Violet May (Anderson) McNeill. Hazel was a retired employee of the Region 3 Hospital Corporation. After completing nursing training at Victoria Hospital Training School for Nurses she began her nursing career at Victoria Public Hospital as an Operating Room Nurse. In the period up to the mid 1970's, she worked at the Victoria Public Hospital as the head Operating Room Nurse. She was also an Operating Room Instructor to nursing students at the Victoria Hospital Training School for Nurses. During this time she wrote various articles for the Canadian Nurse publication. Upon the opening of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, she was appointed to the newly created role of Infection Control Nurse for the Hospital where she diligently performed this role until her retirement in early 1996. She will be remembered for the leadership role she assumed in her career and is well known by her colleagues for her acumen and intellect in her chosen fields. Hazel was a member of the Oromocto United Church, where she was involved in many committees in various roles prior to her decline in health. She also loved music and took particular joy in singing in the choir. Hazel loved gardening, travelling, and visiting with her grandchildren. Hazel is survived by her daughter, Janice Leahy and her husband Mark of New Maryland; beloved grandchildren, Julia and Katie; her sister, Nancy MacNeill of Kingsley and a very close aunt, Isabelle Hume of Fredericton. She is fondly remembered by her greater family including aunts and cousins. She was predeceased by her father, mother and husband, Harold Reid Chapman, of Oromocto as well as several aunts and uncles. Visitation will be held at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at York Funeral Home's T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 11 am with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. A Private interment will take place in Seymour Memorial Cemetery. For those who wish or in lieu of flowers, memorials in Hazel's memory may be made to the Seymour Memorial Cemetery, the Oromocto United Church or to the charity of the donor's choice. The family would like to give special thanks to the Windsor Court staff and Dr. Beatrice Sainz for their kindness and support especially during the final stages of Hazel's life.
