JOYCE MARGARET THORNTON

THORNTON, JOYCE MARGARET Joyce M. Thornton of Central Waterville, York County, passed away December 12, 2009 at the Upper River Valley Hospital. Born in Temperance Vale, NB in 1928, she was a daughter of the late George and Celia (Harris) Christie. Joyce was a member of the Woodstock Wesleyan Church and a member of the Progressive Conservative Women's Association. She is survived by her husband, Arnold D. Thornton; her children, Judy Thornton, Central Waterville, David Thornton (Lynn), Mazerolle Settlement and Brian Thornton (Mary), Temperance Vale; her grandchildren, Amy Whittaker (Kirk), Richard Thornton and Mary Jane Palmer (Dave); her great grandchildren, Matthew Burgoyne and Thomas Whittaker; her sisters, Vesta Thornton, Woodstock and Grace Bragdon, Hartfield; her brother, Fred Christie (Alta), Waterville and a large extended family including several nieces, nephews and in-laws. In addition to her parents, Joyce was predeceased by a son, Donald, sisters, Ada Trail, Doris MacDonald, Ella Gray and Nina Christie and brothers Harold, Ray, Austin, John, Perley and Robert Christie. Visiting hours will be held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service will be held at the Woodstock Wesleyan Church, Main Street, Woodstock on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at 2 pm with Rev. Dale MacDonald officiating. Interment will follow in the Waterville Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Glendon Trail and Joe Dezeeuw. Active pallbearers will be nephews Nelson Christie, Terry Christie, Curtis Christie, Harold Christie, Kevin Blaney and Marty Thornton.
