Robert Stubbert (Daddy)
Date de décès : 30 avril 2008
March 29, 1923-April 30, 2008 Point AconiLast night we said goodbye for the last time, giving you a kiss on your cheek. We, the family of Robert Stubbert, (Daddy), regret to announce his passing on April 30, 2008. Daddy passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Point Aconi, he was the son of the late Peter and Margaret (MacQueen) Stubbert. He was a member of Clyde Avenue Baptist Church, Sydney Mines. Robert or Daddy to many, has gone home to be with his Lord and Savior. Daddy was a faithful and humble servant to his God and family. He lived his life, from a little boy to now, always and ever guided by the hand of God. He always held dear, and tried to live by the teachings of his Mother, who he loved so very much. Daddy was always willing and ready to help any of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As he always said, he would never make “fish of one, nor flesh of another.” He had great love for us all. Robert was a coal miner and fisherman for many years. He retired from fishing at age 78. He so loved to be on the water. He was full of wit and wisdom, and was widely known for his love of music; especially his ‘Irish Bow Hand.’ He learned to play the fiddle at age seven and performed at his first concert at age eight. The rest, as they say, is history — from performing on many stages throughout the Island, Iona, Glendale, Johnstown, Cheticamp, Broad Cove, St. Joseph du Moine and Rollie’s. He was also special guest at Raising the Roof, with the Celtic Colours. He recently won two photography awards with John Ratchford for his picture “She’s Gone.” Robert had many musicians pass through the Stubbert household, from Winston Scotty Fitzgerald, Dwayne Cote, Dougie and Margaret MacPhee, The Barra MacNeils, Johnnie Wilmot, Barley Bree, just to name a few. Daddy is survived by his five daughters, Margaret (Francis) Gracie, Mill Creek, Alice (Ray) MacNeil, Millville, Brenda Stubbert (Wendell), Sydney Mines, Elva (Tony) Robinson, Bedford, and Wena (Billy), at home; two sons, Byron (Donna), Point Aconi, and Wilbert (Debbie), Florence. He is also survived by grandchildren, Allison, Robert, Shannon, Chrissie, Tracey, Morgan, Taylor and Riley; great-grandchildren, Chauntel, Lucas, Julian and Brayden; sister, Mary Margaret, Norway; a brother, Emerson, Sydney Mines; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Robert was predeceased by his loving wife, Regina (Roland) Stubbert, sisters, Alice, Julie, Ethel, Esther and Deanie and brothers, Peter Edward, Wellington, George, Lauchie, Duncan, Tom and Earl. Visitation for Robert Stubbert will be held in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, today (Saturday, May 3) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place Sunday at 2 p.m. in Clyde Avenue Baptist Church, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Frank Guinta officiating. The burial will be held in Point Aconi Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert’s memory may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation, or to a charity of one’s choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family at jmjobesfuneralhome@ns.aliantzinc.ca. The stone which the builders refused is become the headstone of the corner. (Told to Daddy by his mother when he was 17.) Daddy, My Best Friend (by Wena) I watched you suffer, I watched you sigh, And all I could do was just stand by, When the time came, I suffered too, For you never deserved what you went through, I took your hands, and we had to part, God raised your pain, but broke my heart, If you could have spoken before you died, These are the words you would have replied, Tuck, (Wena) this life for me has truly passed, I have loved you till the very last, Weep not for me, but courage take, Love each other, for my sake.
