COOK, GERALD DAVID (GERRY) Passed away very suddenly on January 25, 2010 at the age of 75. He is the son of the late James and Minnie Cook, born in McAdam on January 30, 1933. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; three older brothers (Lionel & Mildred of Quispamsis & Florida; Giles & Lillian of McAdam, and George & Gloria of McAdam); three children, Greg & Peter (London, ON), Drew & Crystal (Fredericton) and Audrey (Fredericton); and three grandchildren, Taryn, Colby and Kayla. Gerry's work experience began during his schooling years in the family store in McAdam. He graduated from McAdam High School, earned his BComm at Dalhousie University, his CA designation in Fredericton, and an MBA from the U of Maine at Orono. His working career included Comptroller at Wandlyn Motels, Senior Auditor with the Province of New Brunswick, Finance Officer for the NB Higher Education Commission, Comptroller at Mt Allison University, and Associate Professor in the Faculty of Administration at UNB, from which he retired in 1996. Gerry was active in the Golden Club, where he played piano for meetings and public performances. He also enjoyed playing duo pianos with Jerry McFarland, and regularly accompanied hymn sings at Pine Grove and old-fashioned sing-alongs at Windsor Court. His other interests included gardening, birding, travel, baseball, photography, lawn bowling (member of the Old Rascals), and alley bowling. Visitation will be held at McAdams Funeral Home, 160 York Street, on Thursday, January 28th, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The memorial service will be held at Christ Church (Parish) Church on Friday, January 29th at 11 am with Rev. Anthony Kwaw officiating and Canon Elaine Hamilton assisting. Interment will take place at a later date. Gerry will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He will be remembered as a generous, caring and fun husband, father, teacher and friend. In lieu of flowers, donations to the SPCA, the Christ Church (Parish) Church stained glass fund, or a charity of the donor's choice will be greatly appreciated.
