HERBERT ROWE (HERB) SWAZEY

SWAZEY, HERBERT ROWE (HERB) Herbert Swazey passed away at the Veteran's Health Unit Hospital, Fredericton, NB, January 28th, 2010. Herbert joined the armed services at the young age of fifteen and served in World War II for five years with the North Shore (NB) Regiment in Woodstock, Aldershot, NS, Utopia, NB, Debert, NB, England, France and Germany with the D-Day invasion. Corporal Swazey was seriously wounded at Capriquet German Airport, Normandy. In January of 2005, Herb was awarded two battlefield bravery awards from Government of France, for his service during Word War II in the Battle of Normandy on D-Day and for the Battle of Carpiquet German Airport. He was also awarded the 1939 - 1945 Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service and Clasp, the France-German Star and the Defense Medal for his dedicated service during World War II. Herb also served as a driver mechanic instructor for several years prior to going into action with the D-Day invasion forces. Herb was a Graduate Watchmaker, G.I.A. Gemologist and Goldsmith. He was an honorary member of Hiriam Masonic Lodge 6 F&AM, a member of Luxor Shriner's of Fredericton, Scottish Rite, Past President of Fredericton Y.M.C.A., a member of the Capital Winter Club, the Christ Church (Parish) Church, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4, and other community organizations. Survived by his wife, Vera (Warnock) Swazey; son, Ian; daughter in law, Barbara (Condon); granddaughter, Jillian; four sisters, Frances, Phyllis, Alice and Donna and three brothers, Jack, Roy. Predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Nellie (Cochrane) Swazey; two sons, Herbert Terry (infant) and John Allison and two brothers, Allison and Glen. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held at Christ Church (Parish) Church on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010 at 11:00 am. Rev. Anthony Kwaw will officiate. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4 will hold a tribute service immediately following the memorial service. Interment will be in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery Extension at a later date. Donations may be made the Canadian Cancer Society or the Veterans Health Unit. McAdam's Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. www.mcadamsfh.com
