62, Sydney It is with deep regret and sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of Joan Kelly, which occurred Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of Mrs. Sophie (Lukow) Piercey, Sydney, and the late Charles Frederick Piercey. Joan was a member of Holy Ghost Ukrainian parish. She was a devoted wife and loving mother, always thinking of others before herself. She had a very strong faith and this carried her through many obstacles. Even with her numerous trials she always had the most beautiful smiles. Besides her mother, Sophie, she is survived by her loving husband, William ‘Bill’ Kelly; her daughter, Patricia (Kenneth) Kingston, Moncton, N.B.; her son, Michael (Louise) Piercey, Ottawa; brother, Freddie (Elizabeth) Piercey, Sydney; as well as several nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her father, Fred Piercey. Visitation will take place Wednesday, May 7, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, May 8, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Funeral mass will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Church, Whitney Pier, with Fr. Roman Dusanowskyj officiating. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. A reception to follow at S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home.
