67, Florence We family of Thomas Campbell, 67, of Florence, regret to announce his passing on May 7, 2008, at home. It was a peaceful journey home to his Heavenly Father, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Florence, Tom was the son of the late Edward and Agnes (Miller) Campbell. He was a member of Wilson United Church, Florence. Tom was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 83, Florence. He worked for Devco until his retirement. Tom was a board member of the Miner’s Memorial Manor in Sydney Mines. Tom is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia (Boutilier) Campbell, Florence; daughters, Beverly (Bernie) Young, Guelph, Ont., and Lorna (Daniel) Jobes, Florence; a son, Joseph Campbell, Guelph, Ont.; brothers, Raymond (Barbara) Miller, Florida, Bill (Odille) Campbell, Arichat; sisters, Barbara (Stemmer) MacMullin, Florence, Linda (Joe) McCarthy, Sydney Mines; and a very special aunt, Millie Campbell, Big Bras d’Or, who was like a second mother to Tom. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Edmund Stapleton (Lisa Walsh), Krystel Stapleton (Mark Gerrow), Nicole Young, Alicia and Victoria Campbell; step-grandchildren, Rob Martell, Darren Martell, Shelley Martell and Janet Maxwell; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Edmund, Merisah, Matthew, Hailey and Jayden; step-great-grandchildren, Kaelin Parks, Taylor and Ryan Maxwell, Christopher and Kyle Martell; many nieces and nephews; and his best friend of 62 years, who he greatly cared for, Dal MacDonald. Tom’s other best friend of five years, his dog JR, was a great companion. Besides his parents, Tom was predeceased by a brother, Lorne, and a sister, Catherine Visitation for Thomas Campbell will be held in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, Friday, May 9, from 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. in Wilson United Church, Florence, with Norma Mills officiating. The burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines. After the burial, there will be a reception at the Florence Legion. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Society. Online condolences may be sent to the family at jmjobesfuneralhome@ns.aliantzinc.ca.
