96, New Victoria Catherine King, 96, of Wallace Road, New Victoria, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, in New Waterford Hospital. Born in Bridgeport, Feb. 8, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Maggie (Campbell) Kennedy. Catherine had a long and enjoyable life. She lived in her own home and did her own work, including cooking and baking. She was known for her delicious tea biscuits and more so her apple pies. She loved to socialize and enjoyed a good game of cards especially with her friends at the New Waterford Pensioners Club. Before her failing eyesight, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Many homes in the area are sporting her handmade afghans. She was also an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan and loved watching all the games on television. Catherine was a devout Catholic. She was a member of the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Joseph’s Church, New Victoria, and a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Altar Society. Catherine is survived by her four daughters, Florence, Maple Hill Manor, Ann (Gordon) McIsaac, New Victoria, Sandra (Eddie) Quinn, New Waterford, and Rose Marie, at home; son, Richard, New Waterford. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Gordie and Bruce McIsaac, Tammy O’Neil and Kimberly Quinn, and Patricia King; two great-grandchildren, Bonnie King and Teagan O’Neil. She is also survived by two special nieces, Carmie Kavanaugh and Diane Spencer, who were always there for her. Also surviving is a special friend, Rosemary Gordon, Halifax. Catherine was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard in 1986, son, Patrick ‘Paddy’ in 2003, brothers, Joe, Neil and Paddy, sisters, Florence, Margaret, Theresa and Rita. Visitation will be held Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass to celebrate Catherine’s life will take place Saturday, May 10 at 11 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Joseph’s Church, New Victoria, with burial in the parish cemetery at a later date. A luncheon will follow in St. Joseph’s Hall, New Victoria. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
