It is with great sadness that we, her family, announce the death of Florence Wallace on Thursday, May 8, 2008, at the Miners’ Memorial Manor. She was 95 years of age. Flo was born in Alder Point, the daughter of the late Mary Belle (MacDonald) and William Pearo. She was a longtime resident of Fifth Avenue, Florence during which time she was a dedicated member of Wilson United Church, the UCW and the Arm of Gold Rebekah Lodge. Flo will be fondly remembered for her love of gardening and quilting and many will remember being invited into her home for a cup of tea. If they were really lucky, they got to enjoy her baked beans and homemade bread. She is survived by daughters, Catherine, Glace Bay, Sandra (Trevor) Currie, Sydney, and their children, Jennifer (Brian) Hanterman, Marwayne, Alta., Jeffrey (Erica), Fredericton, N.B., Rebecca and Marc, Sydney; and son, Jim (Cindy), Hillside, Boularderie, and their children, Andrew (Erin), Sioux Lookout, Ont., and Matthew, Kingston, Ont.; great-grandma will be missed by Jade, Emma, Taylor and Meredith Mom is also survived by her loving, devoted sister, Mary Arsenault (Aunt Mae), Alder Point, who has become everyone’s ‘guardian angel’ at the Miners’ Manor and her dear brother, Murray Pearo, Cobourg, Ont. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law, Nellie Pearo, Alder Point, and Dorothy Wallace, Sydney. Whether they affectionately called her Aunt Bowie, Aunt Flo or Nanny Flo, she will be missed by many nieces, nephews and family friends. Flo was predeceased by her husband, James, an infant daughter, Mary and her siblings, John, Gus, Melvin, Colin, Lillian, Thelia, Myrtle and Edith. At Mom’s request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Wilson United Church or a charity of one’s choice. Mom’s faith in God was the cornerstone of her life and the foundation of her love and devotion to her family.
