71, Baddeck It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Singleton Mason, 71, at his home in Baddeck, N.S., on May 7, 2008. Born Aug. 2, 1936, at the Head of St. Margaret’s Bay, Singie was the youngest son of the late Asa Singleton and Maude (Hatt) Mason. His greatest joy was his family; he took immense pleasure in preparing meals for family and friends. Besides being an avid gardener and talented woodcarver, he thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing and time spent at his cabin. Until his retirement in 1991, he was employed by Nova Scotia Department of Transportation. He is survived by his wife, the former Shirley MacRae; his daughters, Valerie (Dave Parkinson), Baddeck, and Tracey, Vancouver; grandchildren, Grace and Marilla, Baddeck; brother, Lionel (Lynda), Toronto; sister, Barbara (Rick) Peart, Head of St. Margaret’s Bay. He was predeceased by brothers, Darrell (Peggy), Eric (Geraldine ‘Joe’) and Ralph, sister-in-law, Margaret, sister, Juanita in infancy. Cremation has taken place. Visitation is at MacAskill’s Funeral Home, Baddeck, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Sunday, May 11. Funeral is Monday, May 12 at 2 p.m. in Greenwood United Church, with Rev. Karen Lynch officiating. Reception to follow. Interment is at Greenwood Cemetery. Donations may be made to Greenwood United Church or a charity of choice.
