James 'Jimmy' Rich

72, New Waterford James Rich, 72, of Mt. Carmel Avenue, New Waterford, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late James Thomas and Annie (Campbell) Rich. Jimmy was a member of Calvin United Church, New Waterford. He worked in the coal industry for over 36 years. Jimmy will be remembered as a very loving husband, father and grandfather. His compassionate and loyal nature enabled him to build very strong relationships with those he loved. Jimmy is survived by his wife, the former Therese MacKenzie; one daughter, Belinda (Scott) Wilson, Ontario; and three sons, Steward (Gail), Ronnie (Tabitha), both in Ottawa, and Brian (Virginia), Moncton. Also surviving are two brothers, Wayne (Mitchie), Ron, both in New Waterford; and six grandchildren, Brittany, Katherine, Therese Wilson, Ainslie, Kenzie and James Rich. Jimmy was predeceased by one brother, David ‘Bruss’ Rich. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 14 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Duncan Roach, is Thursday at 2 p.m. in Calvin United Church. Interment will be at Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown. All are welcome to join the family for a reception in the parish hall. James will be taken to Calvin Church at noontime Thursday. As an expression of sympathy, donations in James’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
