89, New Waterford It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Prendergast, Monday, May 12, 2008, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Port Hood, Oct. 8, 1918, she was the daughter of the late John Henderson and May (Fraser) Laidlaw. Mary worked in the laboratory department of the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. Mary had a deep devotion to her family. She loved to knit and many family members and friends were proud recipients of Mary’s knitting. She also enjoyed flowers, travelling and was always ready for a game of tarabish. Mary is survived by her daughters, Georgina Kelly, B.C., Vivian Prendergast, Hamilton, Helen (Rob) Mackey, Ontario, Patricia (Wayne) Gillis, New Waterford; and a son, Paul (Maureen) Prendergast, New Waterford. She was much loved and will be deeply missed by her 13 grandchildren, Kathy, Maureen, Christopher, Sean, Patrick, Paula, Joann, Kelly, Jayson, Tom, Wendy, Eric, Mark and 10 great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband, George in 1985 and her son, Peter in 2007, sisters, Helen, Libby, Robina, Marguerite, Violet and brothers, Alex and Basil. There will be no visitation by her request. Cremation has taken place under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, N.S., 862-7500. A funeral mass to celebrate Mary’s life will be held Friday, May 16 at 11 a.m. in the parish of St. Leonard/Mount Carmel Church, with a luncheon to follow in the Carmel Centre, all are invited. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lingan. Donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
