82, Glace Bay May 14, 1926-May 14, 2008 We, the family, are sad to announce the passing of Paul J. Kennedy on May 14, 2008, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex. Born in Birch Grove, he was the son of the late James and Catherine (McGillivray) Kennedy. He was a resident of Mechanic Street, Glace Bay. Paul was an employee with the town of Glace Bay for 30 years until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay. Paul was a veteran of the Second World War and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 3. His favourite pastime was sitting on his step in Loch Lomond and looking over the lake. Paul is survived by his two daughters, Hilda (Joe) Murphy, Cornwall, P.E.I., and Jacqueline (Walter) Podgurski, New Waterford; three sons, Ted (Marion), Paul (Linda), both of Glace Bay, and Dennis (Jacqueline), Elmsdale. Also surviving are sisters, Joveta, Sudbury, Hilda and Marie, Glace Bay; brother, Gerald, Stellerton, N.S.; brother-in-law, James Ferguson; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Paul was predeceased by his wife, Shirley (Ferguson), brothers, Patrick, William, Ignatius, Thomas and Daniel. Visitation for the late Mr. Kennedy will be in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, today (Friday, May 16, 2008) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel, Saturday, May 17, 2008, at 1 p.m. with Fr. Gerald Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in St. Anne’s Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations in Paul’s memory may be made to the Cancer Society or the Children’s Wish Foundation. God saw you getting tired, and cure was not to be, He put His arms around you, and whispered, “Come to Me” With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away, And though we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.
