89, North Sydney Jennie Barbara Legatto (Aubrecht), 89, of 9 Queen St., North Sydney, and formerly of 97 Main St., Sydney Mines, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 15, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of Czechoslovakian immigrants John and Maria (Rotava) Aubrecht. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, Sydney Mines. Always a firm believer in education, she encouraged her children and grandchildren to succeed in that area, for which they are eternally grateful. Besides her family, her passion was growing beautiful plants and flowers in her home. Jennie is survived by her seven children; Francis (Marliyn), Barrie, Ont., Bernie (Lily), Kelowna, B.C., Anne (David) French, Saint John, N.B., Maria (Danny) King, Long Island, CB, Paul, Calgary, Atla., Rose (Terry) Hughes, Saint John, N.B., and Barbara (Scott) Stewart, North Sydney, N.S. She is also survived by a sister, Anne Aubrecht, Montreal, and a brother, Rudy Aubrecht, Sydney Mines. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Shera and Michael, who lived with their ‘Nanny’ for many years; also by grandchildren, Adam, Jena, Andrew, Michael, Lisa, Gina, Jon, Steven, Mark, Lucas, Jordan, Justin, and Jennie, six great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 66 years, Frank Legatto, who passed away two years ago. She was also predeceased by her sisters Elizabeth (Beth) MacLaggan, Agnes MacDonald, Emma Farr, Rose Shiers, Milly Gillis, Mary Peterson, and brothers, Yarmel and Frank. Her family would like to thank the medical staff in the ICU, 4B and 4C at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation for Jennie Legatto will be held in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Sunday, May 18, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass will take place on Monday at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, with Fr. Hughie MacNeil officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Sydney Mines. Donations in Jennie’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
