79, Sydney Mines Thomas Howard Brown, 79, of Sydney Mines, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a brief illness with his two loving nieces, Linda and Larry Bell and Margie and Ross MacLeod, and special friends, Glenn and Sheila (Mamma and Poppa) by his bedside. Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late William O. and Laura (Jarvis) Brown. He was an adherent of the United Church and a lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 8, Sydney Mines. After his military service in Korea with the Royal Canadian Engineers throughout Canada, he retired from the military and was employed with Clarke’s Taxi for many years. He is survived by his daughter, Lorna (Wayne) Williston, Orillia, Ont.; grandsons, Michael and Steven Williston, Ontario; and many nieces and nephews; as well as many friends in the local area. He was predeceased by brothers, James, Samuel, William O. Jr., Melvin and his sister, Gerleana. With respect of Mr. Brown’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, at 10 a.m. in the Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Karen Ralph officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery. n lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Veterans Wing of Harbourview Hospital.
