Glace Bay We regret to announce the passing of Archie McDonald, 84, son of John Dan (Mayor of the Sterling) and Cassie McDonald, on May 29 at the Glace Bay Hospital. He worked with Dominion Coal Company at No. 20 Colliery. Then he joined Caledonia Power and Water Board and later Nova Scotia Power Corp. His enjoyments included wintering in Florida, watching his favourite western movies, and especially his involvement with the Knights of Columbus. He held numerous offices with the KOC, he was Grand Knight, Glace Bay Council, Nova Scotia State Deputy, Master of the Fourth Degree for Nova Scotia. For 10 years, he and his wife Camilla represented the Supreme Office of the KOC as president and director of Family Action in Ottawa. Besides his devoted wife Camilla, Archie is survived by his loving son, Cyril, daughter-in-law, Elaine, and the pride and joy of his life, granddaughter Sarah-Marie. Also survived by sisters, Jennie Bond, Minnie Livingstone, Helen Cameron and brother, Joe, all of Glace Bay. He was predeceased by sisters, Mellie and Pat, and brother, Alex. He was the last surviving member of his Sterling friends, ‘The Boys From Up The Road.’ Visitation will be held Sunday, June 1, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, Main St., Glace Bay. General Mass of Resurrection, Monday, June 2 at 10 a.m. at St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay, concelebrated by Fr. Leo Boone and Fr. Frank Abbass, reception to follow. KOC Third Degree members will gather at 7:30 p.m., Sunday for prayers. Fourth Degree members of the KOC will provide an honour guard during the visitation and a colour guard for the mass. Memorials may be made to the Dialysis Unit, Sydney Hospital, Kidney Foundation or Palliative Care.
