May 1961-June 2008 It is with great sadness that the family of James Winston ‘Jim’ MacKeigan announce his sudden passing at the family farm in Blackett’s Lake on Monday, June 2, 2008. Jim’s hospitality career took him to the Sheraton Hotel, Halifax, the Keltic Lodge and he finally found his true love as the manager of the Birches Country Inn in Ben Eoin. During his teen years and into his late 20s, he was an avid horseman, having travelled to quarter horse shows throughout the Maritimes and New England. During the past three years, he was usually with his niece, Kylea at the local horse shows. Jim is survived by his mother, Pearl (Williamson) MacKeigan, Florence; brother, Blair and sister-in-law, Pamela, Blackett’s Lake and their children, Kylea, Maxwell and Nicholas MacKeigan. He is also survived by his aunt, Sally Williamson, with whom he resided for the past year; his uncle, Cyril Williamson and his wife, Ivy, Blackett’s Lake; aunts, Sheila Bennett, North Sydney, and Nancy Whittle, Enfield, N.S.; uncles, Douglas, Raymond, David, Henry, Gordon and Andy MacKeigan and several cousins. Jim was predeceased by his father, James ‘Sonny’ MacKeigan and both his paternal and maternal grandparents, as well as his uncles, George, Reg and Fred Williamson. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held in the chapel at 10:30 a.m., Friday with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. Memorials may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or to a charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
