Jessie Mary 'Joy' Day

89, Sydney Jessie Mary 'Joy' Day, 89 of Sydney, passed away Wednesday June 11, 2008 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. She was the daughter of the late John Franklin and Isabelle (Boyd) MacKay. Joy worked for the Department of National Defense in Ottawa for 25 years. Upon her retirement, she moved back to Sydney. She also worked for Drs. MacAulay and Gaum in the early 40's, prior to moving to Ontario with her husband and son. She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile, both in Ottawa and Sydney. She was a member of the Cove Auxillary and Louisbourg Ceilidh Chapter IODE. She is survived by daughter, Barbara Belle 'Holly' (John Manderson), Kelowna, BC; son Robert (Pierrette), Windsor, ON; grandchildren Darrell, Tamara, Jason, Bradley and Gregory. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert J 'Hap' Day in 1965; sister, Barbara MacLeod. Visitation for the late Joy Day will take place on Sunday, June 15 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel where funeral service will take place on Monday, June at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Bob Lyle officiating. Interment in Grand River Cemetery, Grand River. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA, Sydney Office or Humane Society.
