66, Gardiner Mines/Ontario/Howie Center John journeyed into a peaceful rest after a strong-willed battle with cancer at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Friday, June 13, 2008. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Stella (Clements) Allen; daughter, Linda (Ben) Burnett, Sydney; son, John Wesley (Krista) Allen, Kingston, Ont.; brother, Archie (Christena) Allen, Steeles Hill; grandchildren, Dylan and Katie Sims and Matthew Allen, all in Ontario. Also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Earl (Joyce) Mollons, Sydney, Lionel and Florence Sharpe, Howie Center, Mike and Phemie Clements, Belle Cote, Lorraine Allen, Dartmouth and brother-in-law and best fishing buddy, Albert Clements, Sydney. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and his furry companion, Sooky. Throughout his life he had lived in Mississauga and Schomberg, Ont. and finally back home for the remainder of his life in Cape Breton where the fishing and fiddling were great. John worked for many years as a truck driver in Ontario until he became disabled and shortly after retired back to Cape Breton. He loved spending time in his shed carving walking sticks, reading, painting, his most favourite was fishing and going on long drives.He enjoyed nature and seeing friends and family. There will be no visitation at John’s request. Cremation has taken place. There will be a gathering of friends and family at the home of Albert Clements 1363 George St., Sydney on Wednesday, June 18 from 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the Sydney Palliative Care Unit.
