70, Glace Bay It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of John Joe, which occurred Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex, Glace Bay. Born in Reserve Mines, John Joe was the son of the late John and Lucy (Burns) MacNeil. John Joe is survived by his daughter, Jolene MacNeil, Glace Bay; son, Keith (Darlene) MacNeil, Halifax; wife, June (Roberts) MacNeil; stepson, James (Jaqueline) Stoodley, Glace Bay, with whom he resided; grandchildren, Elliot and Andrew MacNeil, Halifax. John Joe is also survived by his brother, David (Helen) McNeil; nieces, Debbie Crane, Annette McNeil, Midge (Glen) Binder, Frances (Jimmy) Fraser, Donna (Peck) Gouthro, Jane (Bill) Musgrave, Ann (Wayne) Lerette, Peggy (Paul) Heyman, Erin McNeil; nephews, Bobby (Lynn) McNeil, Derrick (Jo-Anne) McNeil, Sandy (Denise) McNeil, Adam McNeil, Gerry (Jacqueline) McNeil and Bill Murphy. Besides his parents, John Joe was predeceased by brother, Robert McNeil, sister, Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Murphy, companion, Rita Stoodley, nephews, Paul (Kim) McNeil and John David ‘Junior’ McNeil. John Joe was a very proud 40-year member and past president of Labourers International Union of North America, Local 1115, as well as chairman of the board of Cape Breton Labourers' Development Company Ltd. (a not-for-profit housing and savings program for members of LIUNA Local 1115) which he co-founded in 1988 with the late John MacDonald and Fabian McKinnon. Many thanks to all the health-care professionals of both the Glace Bay Health Care Complex as well as the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital who took care of our Dad during his illness. Visitation for John Joe will take place at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, on Thursday, June 19, 2008, from 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 20, 2008, in St. Anthony’s Church, Glace Bay, Rev.
