Lawrence MacDonald
Date de décès : 14 juin 2008
April 30, 1930-June 14, 2008 Lawrence MacDonald instilled in his family a love of nature, the ocean and Cape Breton. Born and raised in Port Hood, his working career began in Ontario, then home to Cape Breton, where he worked for Devco and then in administration for the C.B. School Board. With his wife Donalda, they owned and operated the Garden Cabins in Sydney Forks. Lawrence had exceptional energy, drive and an innovative spirit, creating a diverse and adventurous life. He started a construction company, handcrafted a sailboat, an ice boat, and raced harness horses. He built a cottage on the Bras d’Or Lakes, for many years of happy family memories. He had a zest for life and was passionate about his garden, his dogs, golf, hockey, baseball and was an armchair Jeopardy champ. He was the “go-to” home improvement expert and dedicated his time and talent to help his family. Lawrence stood tall and lived on his own terms. He and Donalda retired to the B.C. in 1997 to join their children and he maintained his proud attachment to Cape Breton, avidly reading the Cape Breton Post and the Inverness Oran. His love for his family and sense of humour were evident to the day he died. He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Donalda; five children, Valerie (Paul), Lorna, Scott (Bev), David (Debbie), Patsy (John); 11 grandchildren and his sisters, Mary O’ Hara (Aubrey) and Marguerite Anderson, with nieces and nephews in Inverness, Michigan, Florida and Massachusetts. The family offer heartfelt thanks to the Maple Ridge Palliative Care and Hospice Teams. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Palliative Care Program in Maple Ridge.
