Victoria MacDonald

Date de décès : 21 juin 2008

82, New Waterford It is with great sadness that we, the family of Victoria MacDonald, announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and sister, on Saturday, June 21, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Barney and Ida (Tighe) Ryan. A warm-hearted, loving person, Mom was best known for her out-going personality and her great sense of fun and laughter. She was remarkable for her ingenuity in turning any event into an extraordinary one. She brightened so many people’s lives with her creative energy and she gave generously to all who knew her. In her early years she loved to dance and go skating. Later she added to her accomplishments, winning trophies for Best Entry in the Coal Dust Parade and also the Santa Claus Parade. She loved to go to bingo, play cards at the Pensioners’ Club, and enjoyed her many friends at Aging Gracefully. She especially loved her time spent at her weekly ‘club meetings’, her loyal friends who bonded as family for over 50 years. She was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother who took pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who in turn adored her. Victoria is survived by daughters, Sherry (Tom) Sullivan and Rodina Whitman, New Waterford, and Cynthia Slattery, Saskatoon; sons, Duncan (Tina), L’Ardoise, John, Halifax, Stephen, Bruce (Clara); and daughter-in-law, Barbara MacDonald, all of New Waterford, as well as 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Marilyn Ryan, and Delores Fraser, New Waterford, Lovie Janega and Vange Gaudet, Sydney, and Shirley MacNeil, Toronto. Besides her parents, Victoria was predeceased by her husband, Duncan, son, Kevin, brothers, Barney, Herman, Terrence, Lucius, Jerry, Greg and Tony, sisters, Margaret (Peg), Tessie and Ida. Visitation for Victoria will take place Monday, June 23, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, N.S., 862-7500. A funeral mass to celebrate Victoria’s life will take place Tuesday, June 24 at 2 p.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard/Mount Carmel Church, with burial to follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in St. Agnes Hall, all are invited. Donations in Victoria’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
