79, New Waterford Archie Woodland, 79, of 8th Street, New Waterford, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2008, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. Born in New Waterford, Archie was the son of the late Eli and Elizabeth (Pynn) Woodland. Archie was a member of the Salvation Army Church and a former member of the Orange Lodge, New Waterford. Archie worked in the coal mines of Cape Breton for 42 years. He loved going to Lake Ainslie with his family and also enjoyed going on fishing and hunting trips with his buddy, John ‘Beck’ McDonald. Archie will be remembered as a very gentle and quiet man who loved his family dearly. He is survived by one daughter, Deuane (Charles MacKay), Glace Bay; two sons, Dempsey (Anne Fitzpatrick), New Waterford, and Timothy (Lisa Bradley), Sarnia, Ont. Archie is survived by one sister, Marge Watt, Vancouver; and four grandchildren, Jason MacKay, George and Wendell Woodland and Ainslie Rankin. Archie was predeceased by his wife, the former Joan Winnifred Davies, one son, Wendell in infancy, four brothers, Henry, Malcolm, John, Clifford, two sisters, Lillian Schfield and Maude. Visitation Wednesday, July 2 at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, from noontime until the time of service at 2 p.m. in the Salvation Army Church, New Waterford. Capt. Cyril Keats officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
