Madeline Cecilia Wadding

Date de naissance : 18 juillet 1927

Date de décès : 28 juin 2008

Madeline Cecilia Wadding (O’Day), formerly of Port Morien, C.B., passed peacefully into Spirit at the QE II Hospital, Grande Prairie, Alta., Saturday, June 28, 2008, in the afternoon, at the age of 80 years. Madeline was born July 18, 1927 and raised in her parents’ home on Long Beach Road, Port Morien. She was one of three brothers and six sisters. Madeline attended Blockhouse School. Although she left Port Morien for work in Boston, Niagara Falls and New York, she eventually returned to her parents’ home where she remained until her mother’s death in 1983. Madeline then joined her daughter Sharon out west in 1984, where she enjoyed first her two grandchildren Jessie Cecilia and John Andrew and then a reunion with her long-lost daughter, Wendy Sylvester, and finally her great-grandchildren, Austin Andrew and Kade Andrew. Madeline was a loyal daughter, caring sister, loving mother, devoted grandmother, precious great-grandmother and a gracious aunt. Madeline, like her Irish brothers and sisters, loved to laugh and make jokes. She liked going for a walk, reading, talking about the weather, knowing exactly what time it was, tickling her grandchildren’s feet. She loved to eat black forest cake, lobsters and a good feed of smelts. She loved her stories (soaps), writing letters, hanging out with her grandkids, drinking coffee and smoking (she did quit). She missed the ocean, loved to have company and enjoyed getting dressed up for every occasion. The absence of Madeline’s spirit, full of love, acceptance and gratitude, here on earth will make the days a little longer for all those who knew and loved her. Madeline will be forever missed by her two loving daughters, Sharon Cecilia Halefoglu, Grande Prairie, Alta., and Wendy Sylvester, Vancouver, B.C.; two grandchildren, Jessie Cecilia Gendron, Peace River, Alta., and John Andrew Gendron, Grande Prairie, Alta.; two great-grandchildren, Austin Andrew Pierson and Kade Andrew Gendron; brother, Peter O’Day and sister, Elizabeth Shepherdson of Cape Breton, James O’Day and Annie May Tauro of Boston; and all her nieces and nephews. “I see her cliffs like loving arms held high above the foam; Cape Breton stands with outstretched hands to bid me welcome home.” The cremation took place at Oliver’s Grande Prairie Funeral Chapel & Crematorium on July 2, 2008, in Grande Prairie, Alta. A private service will take place at Madeline’s daughters in Grande Prairie on Saturday, July 5, 2008, at 11 a.m. Fr. Albert will be in attendance. As per Madeline’s request her ashes will return home to Port Morien. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Condolences may be sent by visiting www.oliversgrandeprairie.com or Sharon Halefoglu, 9409-70 Ave., Grande Prairie, Alta., T8V 5W7.
