Sydney It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Bernice on Monday, July 7, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Corner Brook, N.L., June 16, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Clara Dwyer and Bernard O’Hearn. She was a loving, kind and gentle woman who inspired her family to choose goodness, faith and honesty in every aspect of their lives. Her understanding and dedication to family values coupled with a positive, caring attitude were key strengths that molded a family and created lasting memories. She loved life and found the greatest satisfaction in helping others. We will deeply miss her unconditional love and the ‘motherly’ knowing smile and her unique sense of humour. Bernice is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Jerry; brother, Gerald O’Hearn, U.S.A.; daughters, Carol (Bud) Streeter, Fall River, Lynn (Kenny) Pitchuck, Petawawa; sons, Kent (Madeleine), Halifax, Mark (Norma), Lower Sackville, and Ted, Pemberton, B.C. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Patricia. Bernice was a past president and lifelong member of St. Anthony Daniel CWL; a founding member of St. Anthony Daniel parish council; a former volunteer with palliative care and an active member of a small and dedicated Prayer Group. Thank you to family and friends near and far for calls, cards, visits, food and prayer. Special thanks to VON nurses. An Cala Palliative Care staff and notably Fr. Norman MacPhee, Fr. Neil McKenna and especially Dr. Glenn Gracie. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2008, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony Daniel Church, Thursday, July 10 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Donald MacGillivary officiating. There will be a reception in the Saint Anthony Daniel parish hall following the service. Family interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery.
