Oct. 14, 1929-July 9, 2008 Glace Bay/Bridgeport Duddy Roberts passed away suddenly with his family at his side on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, in the Glace Bay Health Care Complex. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Alphonse and Mary Jane Roberts. He was a lifetime member of the Row St. A.C., serving on many committees. He was also a retired miner. He was a loving, kind and gentle father, who enjoyed family gatherings, hunting, sports, dancing and socializing. He had a love for playing his guitar. With a great sense of humour, he loved to play pranks on his family, looked forward to evenings playing checkers with his brother, Alex and visits with his pal, Fabe. He is survived by his daughters, Shirley, Goldie, Candida (Malcolm) McIntyre, Belinda Vacheresse; sons, Joey (Debbie), George (Audrey); brother, Alex (Flo); sister, Mary Saccary; eight grandchildren and three great-grandsons; sisters-in-law, Anne McKinnon, Theresa Roberts. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Shirley, brother, Alfie and son-in-law, Dennis Vacheresse. Visitation will be Sunday, July 13 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, July 14 at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church with Fr. Gerald Campbell officiating. Interment will follow the service in the parish cemetery. For those who wish, donations may be made to a charity of you choice.
