87, Sydney It is with deep sorrow that we, the family of Vera O’Callaghan announce her peaceful passing surrounded by her loving family, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility on Thursday, July 10, 2008. Born in Sydney, Vera was the daughter of the late Jack and Emily (Cooper) Janes and the spouse of the late Bert O’Callaghan. Beloved mother of son, Lawrence (Marilyn), East Bay; daughters, Doreen (John) Marsh, and Dorothy (Paul) Nicholson, both of Sydney. Fond memories of ‘Nanny’ will be forever treasured by her eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Vera worked for many years at the Smart Shop in Sydney. Vera’s greatest joy was her family and a good game of darts. She was a member of Sydney Garrison Sergeants Mess Mixed Dart League for over 40 years. Besides her parents and spouse, Vera was predeceased by her sisters, Muriel, Irene and twin sister, Alma and daughter, Diane in infancy. Visitation will take place Friday, July 11, 2008, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, July 12, 2008, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Donations may be made to a charity of choice.
