82, Main-a-Dieu It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Clem Spencer which occurred Saturday, July 12, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary ‘Mame’ (MacCuish) Spencer. Raised on Scatarie Island until 1945, he then moved to Main-a-Dieu, where he was a fisherman until his retirement. Clem loved to dance and attended the seniors dances. In his younger years he enjoyed playing lob ball in his NHL golden sneakers. Clem is survived by his sister, Jane Harris; sister-in-law, Theresa Spencer, both of Main-a-Dieu; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended family who lovingly referred to him as ‘Uncle Clem’. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Spencer, his brother-in-law, Jim Harris and his special uncle, Will. Visitation took place Sunday, July 13 at Immaculate Conception Church, Main-a-Dieu, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. today (Monday) at Immaculate Conception Church, with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery. Donations may be made to Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Main-a-Dieu.
