1957-2008 Glace Bay It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of James ‘Bruce’ Buchanan. Bruce passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. A lifelong resident of Glace Bay he was born July 19, 1957, eldest son of Edna (McGean) and the late James Buchanan. Bruce was Senior Manager of Labor Relations for the Cape Breton District Health Authority. His strong sense of fairness and professionalism earned him the respect and admiration of all his colleagues, not just locally, but provincially as well. Bruce was a member of the Tyrian Youth Lodge #45 and the Cape Breton Drag Racing Association. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved his Maple Leafs. Bruce will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Karen (Snow); cherished daughters, Laura and Lindsay; brothers, Ian and Lorne; sister-in-law, Linda (Walter) Fitzgerald; brother-in-law, Jim Snow; as well as several nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his constant companion, Spike. In honoring Bruce’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Friday, July 18, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The Philae Temple will hold a memorial service Friday evening at 6:45 p.m. in the funeral home. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 19 at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay with Rev. Michael Henderson officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.
