Nov. 19, 1917-July 25, 2008 90, Sydney, N.S. Jessie MacEachern, ‘Our Angel On Earth,’ has been called to God’s home, passing away peacefully after a brief illness, on Friday, July 25, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with her loving family at her side. Jessie was born in Grand Mira, Cape Breton, on Nov. 19, 1917, the daughter of the late John R. and Mary (Gillis) MacLeod. She was raised with her brother Donald by her loving Uncle Jim and Aunt Maggie Gillis in Grand Mira. Jessie was predeceased by her husband, Archie Leo, daughters-in-law, Sheila MacEachern and Susan MacEachern, brother, Donald MacLeod, half-sister, Pauline Morrison, half-brothers, Hughie, Jimmy, Fraser and John MacLeod, stepmother, Susie (Powell) MacLeod. Left to rejoice in the memory of her loving life are daughters, Anna (Dave) Poirier, Mary (David) French; six sons, John (Paulette), Donnie, Archie (Marilyn), Jim, Len and Mike (Annette), all of Sydney. Jessie, affectionately known as Nanny, is also survived by her special grandchildren, Michelle Coleman (Paul), Karen O’Neil (Kelly), Deanna MacKinnon (Kevin), Janet MacDonald (Garrett), Laura MacEachern (Raymond MacLean), Tim MacEachern (Stephanie), David MacEachern, Michael and Renee Poirier, Leanna Carrigan (Michael) and Janine and Andrea French. She is also survived by her 10 cherished great-grandchildren Riley, Thomas and Matthew MacDonald, Taylor and Madison Coleman, Logan and Luke O’Neil, Hailey and Kathryn MacEachern and Nolan MacKinnon. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Rita MacLeod; three half-sisters, Mary O’Brien, Florence MacLeod, Frances O’Brien, all of Sydney; three half-brothers, Duncan and Jackie MacLeod, both of Sydney, Ronald MacLeod, Toronto, and very dear cousin, Sr. Lillian Gillis, CND, Holy Angels Convent. Jessie was a lifelong member of Saint Theresa’s parish, Sydney, and a long standing member of the CWL, a friend to its many loyal members. Always to be remembered as a kind, gentle, caring lady of great faith, with a warm smile and a quick wit. Her favourite times were spent when surrounded by her family. Jessie leaves many fond memories of her self-taught talents of sewing, knitting and crocheting. Many who visited her home were always treated to a great cup of tea and her delicious home baking. Visitation will take place at T.W. Curry, Parkview Chapel, Sydney, Sunday, July 27, 2008, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will celebrate Jessie’s life Monday, July 28, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Saint Theresa’s Church, Sydney, with Rev. Danny MacLennan as celebrant. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks, N.S. In Jessie’s memory, donations can be made to the St. Margaret of Scotland Building Fund, Grand Mira South, or a charity of one’s choice.
