Joan MacDougall
Date de décès : 28 juillet 2008
Sydney It is with sadness, but with joy in a life wonderfully lived, that we announce the passing of Joan MacDougall, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin and a friend. Joan passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, July 28, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Whitney Pier, she was the daughter of the late John M. ‘Dan C.’ and Millie (Lappin) MacNeil. Joan attended Holy Redeemer Girls School, Whitney Pier, and went on to work for a time with the Royal Bank, Sydney. By far however, her greatest joy came from caring for her family with an endless supply of love and laughter. She was indeed a most precious wife, mother, sister and ‘nana’. Over the years Joan lent her creativity and intelligence to oil painting, the game of bridge and many other interests. Her faith and strength were an inspiration to us all. She is survived by her husband, James ‘Sham’ MacDougall; her daughter, Joanne (Edmund) Harrison, Sydney; the lights of her life, grandchildren, Peter James and Sara-Beth Harrison; two sisters, Margie (Bud) Kozera, Sydney, Colleen (’Blick’) Campbell, Sydney; three brothers, Dan C. (Valerie) MacNeil, Bill (Linda) MacNeil, John (Theresa) MacNeil, all of Sydney; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by aunt, Sadie (MacNeil) Fogarty, by Ethel (Timmons) MacNeil, also by her sisters-in-law, Helen (Stan) MacDougall and Peggy (Donnie) Antonello and, brothers-in-law, Gregory (Kay Marie) MacDougall, Angus MacDougall, Eddie (Rose) McNeil and Bill (Zelia) Goode. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Wednesday, July 30. Funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, July 31 at 2 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Church with Revs. Gerald Dunphy and Norman MacPhee concelebrating. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Memorial donations to Cape Breton Palliative Care or a charity of choice.
