GWENDOLYN L. TWEEDDALE

TWEEDDALE, GWENDOLYN L. - The death of Gwen Tweeddale occurred peacefully at Shirrill House Nursing Home in Boston on March 19th, 2003. Gwen was born in Arthurette, NB in1916. she was the daughter of the late Cecil Augustus (Gus) and Inez E.Tweeddale. Gwen taught school in Canada for two years but decided that school teaching was not to be her chosen career. She worked as a RN at Mass. General Hospital in Boston, after being trained at Central Maine General Hospital and Boston College as one of the first women graduates. She retired from nursing in 1977 and began a full time volunteer ministry at Many Mansions Ecumenical Center in downtown Boston. She also served at the Mission Hill Aids Hospice Program. Gwen was devoted of faith in the Anglican and Roman Catholic traditions. Her final residence for over twenty years was the Symphony Plaza West. She was a committed gardener and homespun knitter, and was a very kind woman who out of her humility and generosity helped many to heal, especially the cities poor. A simple memorial service will be held in the chapel at her apartment building on Monday March 24th, at 5:00 PM. Father Brian Murdock will preside. Interment and graveside service will take place at a later date in Saint Machutus Cemetery in Arthurette, NB. Gwen leaves a brother, Reginald Tweeddale (Faye and Jean deceased) and one niece, Janet DeMello (Michael) in Fredericton and cousins, Rosemond Smith (husband deceased) of Andover, Mass, David White (wife deceased) of Houlton, Maine, and Rev. Barton Demerchant (Janet) in Michigan. For those who wish memorial donations may be made at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home. 458-9170
