Madeleine (Clarke) Duthie Baker

On July 27, 2008, Madeleine passed away at St. Michael’s Hospital, Scarborough, Ont., after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the daughter of John P. Clarke and Gertrude (Hanrahan) Clarke, originally from 427 St. Peter’s Rd., Sydney, N.S. Madeleine attended Constantine School and graduated from Holy Angels High School in 1948. Before moving to Ontario, she was employed with the Government of Canada, at UIC office in Sydney, N.S. During her early years in Ontario, she was a school counsellor at Cardinal Newman High School, in which she was loved and respected until her retirement. Surviving are her three sons, Richard Duthie (Renee), Barrie, Ont., Kenny Duthie (Maria), Medina, Ohio, U.S.A, Roger Duthie (Louise), Dubai, United Arab Emirates; granddaughters, Courtney and Isabella; grandsons, Jordon, Ashton, Oliver; sisters, Carmella (Alfred Medora), Sydney, N.S., Marguerite (John Fedora), East Bay N.S.; brothers, Sheldon (Margaret), Big Pond, N.S., Raymond Clarke (Joy), Alberta, Patrick Clarke, Sydney, N.S. and many nieces and nephews in Ontario and Albert Bridge, Glace Bay, Halifax and Sydney, N.S. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Donald Duthie and second husband, Tom Baker, Ontario, sisters, Marie Burrow, RN, Glace Bay, N.S., Karen Nelson, Ontario, brother, John, New Waterford, N.S., brothers-in-law, Dan Burrows, Glace Bay, N.S., Everette Nelson, Ontario and Madeleine’s special nephew, Billy MacNeil, Sydney, N.S. Arrangements for funeral and mass will take place at Jarrett Funeral Home, 6191 Young St., North York, Toronto, Ont., M2N 4K4 (416-223-6050).
