Edward 'Eddie' French

Sydney It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Edward ‘Eddie’ French, on Friday July 25, 2008. Eddie was born in Sydney, N.S., Feb. 28, 1944, the son of Evelyn (Lively) and the late Cecil French. Beloved husband and best friend of Annette (nee MacLean); loved father of Donna (Dan Campbell); sons, Kevin (Evelyn) and Chad (Renee), all of Sydney. Eddie is also survived by his Mom, Evelyn who through her example taught him to be the man he grew to be, a loyal and loving husband, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a devote and compassionate brother to his siblings. He was a true friend to all that knew him. He is survived by grandchildren, Denise, Mitchell, Michelle, David and Tyler and one great-grandchild, Donovan. Eddie is survived by his brothers, David (Mary) and Ron (Diane); sisters, Peggy (Eric Brophy), Beverly (Elmer Muise), Germaine (Kenny McLeod) and Debbie (Jack Lessie), all of Sydney; and sister-in-law, Dorothy (Art Young), St. Catharines. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Eddie was a lifelong member of Holy Redeemer parish, Whitney Pier, and an active member of Branch 128, Royal Canadian Legion. Eddie had a zest for life and this shone through in his early morning rising at the break of dawn. It was then that he would contemplate his day and give thanks for his family, his many blessings and especially his Mom, Evelyn. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and sharing the events of the day over coffee as well as a good game of tarabish. He was an avid sports fan with his teams being Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays. Eddie was employed in his early years with Rowe’s Freight & Marine Service, Progressive Wholesale and later with the CBRM. He was predeceased by his father, Cecil, brothers, Johnnie, Bobby and Terry, brother-in-law, Harry Burt, sister-in-law, Sylvia French, mother-in-law, Jeanette MacLean and father-in-law, Dan MacLean. In accordance with Eddie’s wishes, his body has been donated to science. A Mass of Remembrance in celebration of Eddie’s life will be held at Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 31 with Fr. Errol MacDonald as celebrant. In Eddie’s memory, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Holy Redeemer Building Fund or a charity of one’s choice.
