Sydney Mines It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our brother, Donnie, at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax on Saturday, July 26, 2008. Donnie was predeceased by his parents, Clarence Hugh MacLennan, QC, and Hazel Margaret Hyde MacLennan, brother, Clennan in infancy, his grandmother, Ada Jane Johnston MacLennan, beloved uncle, Warren ‘Doc’ MacLennan and cousin, Arlie Beth Kay. Donnie is survived by his sisters and brother, Dorothy (Roddie) MacNeil, Sydney, Mora MacLennan, North Sydney, Elaine (Terry) MacNeil, Grand Narrows, Allison (Barry) MacKenzie, Christmas Island, and Ryan MacLennan, Halifax. Also, by his cherished nieces and nephews, Sarah Jane and Morgan MacKenzie and Ian Roy and Christina MacNeil and his aunt Doris and MacLennan, cousins, Sheila and Cathy and maternal cousin, Ann Marie Cadden, Edmonton. Our brother Donnie was kind and gentle, caring and compassionate. He was always willing to extend a helping hand to his fellow man, friends and strangers alike. He was a wonderful storyteller and conversationalist. His passions included his family, music, books, film, world events, current affairs and dancing. Donnie was a member of Carmen United Church and an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion. A funeral service in celebration of Donnie’s life will be held at Carmen United Church, Clyde Avenue, Sydney Mines, Thursday, July 31 at 4 p.m. with Rev. Shawn Hancock officiating. Friends and family are invited to gather for a reception in the church hall after the service with burial to follow at Brookside Cemetery Halfway Road, Sydney Mines.
