MATTHEWS, SELINA RHETA (McINNIS) - At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John N.B., on April 4, 2003, following a period of failing health, Mrs. Selina Rheta (McInnis) Matthews of Letete, N.B., wife of Herbert Matthews. Born at Lowell Mass., she was daughter of the late Joseph and Selina (Cowdell) McInnis. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Rheta is survived by her husband; one daughter Elaine (Terry) Cooke of Miramichi, N.B.; two grandchildren; Sharon Cooke of Saint John and Stephen (Lissa) Cooke of Miramichi; one great grandson, Christopher; one sister, Marion (Richard) Leslie of St. George NB, and several nieces and nephews and many cousins. She was predeceased by one brother; Walter McInnis and two sisters; Grace Bigney and Viola Keniston. A resident of the Letete area, Rheta was an active member of the community. She was a member of the O.E.S. #15 of St. George as well as the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Branch #40 of St. George. The family will receive friends at the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533) 26 Portage St., St. George, NB, on Sunday from 2 PM to 5 PM. A memorial service will be held on Monday at 3 PM from the Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel, at the funeral home, with Rev. David Haddon officiating. Interment will follow at the St. George Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit; the NB Heart and Stroke or the Canadian Kidney Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family. www.stgeorgefh.ca
