MR. WILLIAM DOUGLAS CAMPBELL

CAMPBELL, MR. WILLIAM DOUGLAS - Searsville / North Salem, Mass. - Mr. William Douglas Campbell, 84, North Salem, Massachusetts, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at the home of his niece, Iris and Francis Guptill, Searsville, NB. Born at Sutherlands River, he was a son of the late William A. and Margaret A. (Sutherland) Campbell. He served with the Canadian Armed Forces for five and a half years during the Second World War. Returning from the war he worked as a miner in Pictou County until 1958 when he moved to Cambridge, Mass. and was employed in the trucking industry. After retirement he moved to North Salem, Mass. and in 1998 to Andover, Mass. Doug enjoyed traveling to the Maritimes to visit family, friends and familiar places until two years ago when he could no longer drive himself. Surviving are stepdaughter, Bernice (Wally) Hubley; step-son, William Tobin, Tewksbury, Mass; step-grandchildren, Michelle, Rhonda, Alana, Mike; two step great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 33 years, Geraldine (White) Tobin Campbell; sister, Bessie MacDonald; brothers, John, Clifford, Alexander, Duncan. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sussex Select Community Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow with Rev. Glenn MacDonald officiating followed by a Royal Canadian Legion tribute service. The family will receive visitors from 10 a.m. until the start of the service. Interment of ashes will be in Castle Hill Cemetery. Donations may be made in his memory to the Sussex Health Center Palliative Care Fund, 75 Leonard Drive, Sussex, NB E4E 2P7.
