SHEILA LEAMAN (59) HARWOOD
HARWOOD, SHEILA LEAMAN (59) - Portland - Sheila Leaman Harwood, 59 of 17 Dirigo Street, Portland died April 23rd, 2003 at her home after a courageous 19 month battle with cancer. Mrs. Harwood was born October 21, 1943, in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada, daughter of Collin M. and Marion E. Leaman. She lived on Deer Island, New Brunswick and attended elementary school there, until moving with her parents to South Portland in the sixth grade. She graduated from South Portland High School in 1961 and attended Northeastern Business College in Portland where she met her husband, Waldo (Wally) E. Harwood III. They were married on July 10, 1965. Mrs. Harwood was predeceased by her mother, Marion Leaman, in 1980, and her father, Collin Leaman in 2002. Following college, she was employed for eight years by Aetna Finance Company in Portland. She was a member of the Greater Portland Credit Women United. More recently she worked for almost 22 years at the Woodfords Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, in Portland, where she was Church Secretary. She retired on December 31, 2002 for health reasons. Mrs. Harwood was a member of the Woodfords Congregational Church where she served as a member of the Missions Department and as a church school teacher. Survivors include her husband of almost 38 years, Waldo (Wally) E. Harwood III, of Portland; her son, Michael Harwood, of Standish; her daughter, Karen Harwood, of South Portland; two grandsons, Nicholas Robbins and Jason Robbins, of South Portland; her mother-in-law, Sylvia Harwood; her sister-in-law, Nancy Harwood; both of Porland; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at Woodfords Congregational Church in Portland, at 1 PM on Wednesday, April 30th followed by a reception at the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Woodfords Congregational Church Music Fund, 202 Woodford St., Portland ME 04103.
