STEPHENSON, HARRY OSBORNE - (The Hat) of Saint John, NB. Passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Harry is survived by his long time companion of many years Mamie (Richard) and children; sons, Carl (Paulette) Richard, Stanley (Rose) Richard both of Saint John, NB. Paul of Toronto, Ont. and Thomas of Dartmouth NS., daughters, Marilyn (Al) Lalonde of Saint John, Theresa (Chuck) Crawford also of Saint John, Mary (Ted) McGuire of Prince Albert Sask .and Denise (Jeff) Tupper of Dartmouth NS. Brothers; Max, and David Stephenson; sister Janet O'Neil of Victoria BC. Several nieces and nephews and grandchildren. Harry was predeceased by Kenneth and Joseph sons, of Mamie. Harry was employed for many years as a checker at the Port of Saint John where he was a member of the International Longshoreman's Association and acted in later years as a business agent for the checkers. Harry was a long time New Brunswick sports enthusiast and historian. Over sixty years active association with baseball in New Brunswick he participated as a player, coach, manager and owner. The highlight of his baseball career was coaching his beloved Saint John Dodgers to the Canadian National Senior baseball championship in 1983.In later life, Harry never ceased to delight in seeing young people become involved in sports. At the time of his death Harry was compiling a history of baseball in New Brunswick. Harry was a member of the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, Saint John Sports Hall of Fame, New Brunswick Baseball Hall of Fame and a recipient of the Queen Jubilee Medal for longtime service to the sports community in New Brunswick. Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB. (646-2424) with visitation on Wednesday 7-9 pm and Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 pm. The Funeral service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Friday May, 2nd, 03 at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Oceanview memorial Gardens.
