NELL K. BANKS

BANKS, NELL K. - The death of Nell K. Banks of 219 Ellerdale Street, Saint John, widow of T. Leslie Banks, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday April 30, 2003 after a lengthy illness. Nell was the daughter of the late Harry and Alice Brodie. Her only brother Jock was killed in the Second World War. She is survived by one daughter E. Anne (Banks) Hobbs and her husband Ralph. Nell received her education in Saint John Schools and graduated from Saint John Vocational School in 1931. She served as secretary of St. John Ambulance local during the Second World War. She was a Charter member of the National Secretaries Association Saint John Branch; secretary and board member of the Cherrybrook Zoo; life member of the Canadian Kennel Club; past president and secretary of the Saint John Obedience Club. Nell was employed as secretary of the Parish of Simonds School Board and, after amalgamation, for the Saint John Board for 34 years, retiring in 1982. Nell's interests were the love of animals, especially dogs and cats; reading, bridge and cooking. Nell was Presbyterian by faith. At Nell's request, there will be no visitation at the funeral home. Following cremation, a Memorial Service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) on Saturday May 3, 2003 at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Fernhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Animal Rescue League or the Cherrybrook Zoo would be much appreciated.
