HARRY A. MALLORY
MALLORY, HARRY A. - St. Andrews, New Brunswick, November 20, 1910 to May 7, 2003. A member of a long time St. Andrews family passed away on May 7, 2003 at the age of 92. Harry A. Mallory husband of Pauline (Fitzmaurice) Mallory passed away following a tragic accident near his home. Mr. Mallory was one of the town's older citizens and was loved and respected by those who knew him. Over the years, his remarkable memory was an invaluable source of information to many. He was born in St. Andrews in 1910, the son of Charles W. and Mabel (Johnson) Mallory and upon the death of his mother in 1910 he lived with his paternal grandparents in the family homestead in St. Andrews. Mr. Mallory received his primary education in St. Andrews, graduating from Charlotte County Grammar School in 1927. After graduating from Normal School he embarked on a teaching career that lasted for fifty years, interrupted only by his studies at UNB (BA 1936) and three years military service during the war. He taught in the public school system of New Brunswick at Lynnfield, Perth, Stanley and St. Stephen until 1960. From 1960, until retirement in 1970, he taught in the Teacher Training Department of the New Brunswick Institute of Technology (Community College) in Moncton. Following his retirement from full-time teaching he returned to live in the family homestead in St. Andrews and continued to teach at summer schools in Moncton, Fredericton and in Halifax, N.S until 1977. Over the years Mr. Mallory served his community in various capacities. He was active in the church, historical organizations, service clubs, Legion and the Home and School Association. In the early 70's he served as a member and chairman of the School Board of District #23. From 1977 until the time of his death he devoted his time and energy to the St. Andrews Rural Cemetery, serving as Secretary-Treasurer of that organization for over twenty-five years. Besides his wife of over 60 years, Pauline, he is survived by a daughter Catherine and her husband Robert Crosby of Ottawa, two sons Bill and his wife Lori of St. Andrews and Frank and his wife Judy of Indian Head, Saskatchewan, six grandsons, two great granddaughters, one brother of Ottawa and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother Charles Franklin. Mr. Mallory's funeral service was held on May 11, 2003, from All Saints Anglican Church in St. Andrews with service conducted by Canon John Matheson and Ven. Archdeacon J. F. N. Jones. Honorary Pallbearers were the Directors of the St. Andrews Rural Cemetery and Active Pallbearers were Allan Casey, Geordie Doon, David Graham, Jonathan Logan, John Perry and Gladstone Smith.
