63, Ingonish It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we, the children, announce the passing of our dear mother and best friend, Rita Marie Hawley. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Aug. 9, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, following a courageous battle with cancer. Mom was born Dec.19, 1944, to the late Harry Robinson and Francis (Barron Robinson) Cooke. She is survived by her husband, Basil; sons, Joey (Tanya), David (Rhonda), Tim (Laurie), Nathan (Wendy); grandchildren, Dylan, Curtis, Daniel, Shakira, Emily, Carson and unborn baby soon to arrive. Brothers and sisters are Marg, Fran, Diane, Patsy, Harry, Clifford, George, Kenny, Fabian and their spouses, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her father, Harry, she was predeceased by sisters Bonnie and Kay and mother-in-law, Jessie. Mom’s dedication to her family was an inspiration. She touched many hearts with her strong faith and warm smile. We are better people because of her. She will be forever in our hearts. By family request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Monday, after 2 p.m. in the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Ingonish. Funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, at 11 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church, Rev. Will MacPherson officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. As memorials, donations may be made to the CIBC Run for the Cure. We, the family, would like to express out “Thanks” to our community for their support, to the nurses and staff of Buchanan Memorial Hospital, the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, and Home Support for their incredible care.
